About Pater Familias

What

Pater-Familias.com takes father-blogging to a higher level of challenge, the School-Age Child. All the easy laughs — poopoo, no more sex, brain damage from the Wiggles — are long gone. But the kids still need us, more than ever, even while they’re doing their damndest not to. They’re learning to deceive, getting good at it, too. And remembering. Sobering thought: What you do today, may still piss off Junior when you’re dead.

Mike, a/k/a Pater Familias

Who

Pater Familias is Mike Steere, omniwriter (books, periodicals, TV) and parent of first-grader daughter, blogname Girl Child. Pater is also the ever-loving spouse of media exec, dubbed Minerva. A year ago the family moved east from LA to Montclair, New Jersey, suburb in denial. Walk up the block, you can see Manhattan.

Why

The Pater Familias creed:

  • “Daddy” is man’s highest honorific.
  • Live up to it. Love it. Affirm it.
  • No whining. No wanking. No mugging or straining for effect.
  • No nothing to discomfit child or spouse.

Pater’s Plays

That Silver Haired Daddy of Mine by Gene Autry

Millions of fighting men missed their daddies listening to this World War II standard. Got to love the singing cowboy’s ache to wipe away years, make amends. Thousands who loved this song didn’t live to try. Scratchy, thin audio for authenticity.
